What’s Up?
It’s been a semi-hectic month, as I’ve moved from an apartment into a house. That meant a lot of boxing things up, arranging utilities, finding movers, playing Civilization Revolution and changing addresses.
What’s that? You mean your last move did not include time spent playing games?
Moving is always a stressful time and I’m afraid to say that playing Civ Rev definitely added to my stress level this time. How could I possibly pack another box when Cleopatra’s waiting to take over my cities? If I don’t finish researching a new technology, Alexander might crush me with his legions. Clearly, I needed to take some time between wrapping up breakables to vanquish my many enemies. Clearly!
Now that I’m unpacked and mostly settled into the new place, I’ve been finding time to spend with Civ Rev yet again. It’s an engaging little game, simplified from the Civilization games of yore. I’m enjoying it quite a bit. Thank goodness I’ll have something to occupy my mind, as Fan Faire is coming up and this is the first year since 2005 that I won’t be attending.
That makes me a little sad as I’ve really enjoyed meeting our players and chatting with them about our games. Also, the Star Trek Experience will be shutting down next month, so this will be one of the last opportunities to enjoy it before then. I’ll miss randomly encountering folks I know in hotel hallways, listening to all the panels about different games, accidentally assisting teams on the live quest and seeing the gorgeous costumes our players create.
But with a new place comes new responsibilities. I have pets to care for (currently five cats and a dog…it’s a long story), tomato plants hung with precious green fruits and a pear tree with about four little pears growing on it. All these will need my care to survive the August heat. Hence, I must be responsible and do my duty by them.
And play some Civ Rev to play, too. Muahahaha!
I attended the G.I.R.L. breakfast at Fan Faire this past weekend and while the Scholarship Program would not really apply to me, I’m very interested in keeping up with what’s going on with the program. I was just curious if you are planning to set up a mailing list for it. If so, please add me to it. Thanks : )
