Memory Lane

A couple of years ago, our Fan Faire was in Atlanta. Very exciting! While most folks know Atlanta as the headquarters of Coca Cola, it is also near the current headquarters of that Southeastern American eatery known as Waffle House.

I love Waffle House because I love waffles. Pancakes will do, but waffles are the perfect melted butter and maple syrup delivery vehicles. Each little pocket fills with deliciously sweet liquid, which then can explode with flavor as you bite down on the thin, waffle sponge itself. You can keep your thick and crusty Belgian waffles; I want my waffles thin.

Unfortunately, there were no Waffle Houses within comfortable walking distance of our Atlanta venue. While I briefly debated renting a car or even taking a cab, it seemed silly to spend that kind of money on cheap eats. And so, the only Waffle House I saw that trip was when the chartered bus trundled down the highway. I asked the driver to stop, but was shouted down by my fellow SOE employees who wanted to get home.

The cretins.

=)

In any case, I recently spent a week in Ohio, which doesn’t seem very southerly to me. Still, I was overjoyed to find that there are Waffle Houses sprinkled liberally across the map. And so this time, I got to eat my fill of carbs…grits, hash browns and a waffle. Mmmm!

Our next Fan Faire will be in Vegas, where there are no Waffle House locations. If I go this year, I shall have to make do with endless buffets and bars. Oh, well…I suppose I’ll manage!
